Creekers Jamboree
Did you love the music you heard at the Gowanus Canal Dredgers Canoe Club Boathouse at 165 2nd Street in Brooklyn last summer? Want to hear more?
We are preparing for a second summer of Creekers Jamboree and are asking all of you who enjoyed it last summer and those who would like to attend this summer to consider making a donation to get the Jamboree going for 2019. We are committed to running the Jamboree again, and the more money we raise the better the lineup will be. We want to keep it all free or by suggested donation and thought Kickstarter would be a great way to get this thing off the ground.
The background -- how it all began:
Last year at the Brooklyn Folk Festival -- Banjo Toss in April, Owen Foote, treasurer of the Gowanus Canal Dredgers Canoe Club, asked me to put together a music series at the boathouse for the summer. I thought about it for about five seconds and said "Yes!" Two minutes after that I asked a few fellow musicians if they thought it would be a good idea and they agreed, so the seed was sown.
With only a few months to plan and very little funding we were able to put on five spectacular performances with ten different acts. Last season was such a smashing success that we decided to do it again this summer and build on last year's momentum. Last year we relied on my musical friends who basically donated their time to a good cause, and I will be forever grateful for it. This year we want to do it a little differently and actually plan ahead, have a budget to pay the talent, and work on getting some sponsorship. That will allow us to hire musicians and help keep the wolf from the door of some of the really fine talent this great city has to offer.
Here's our goal:
With a $3,000 budget we can put together six dates: one per month, May through October. Each date will have approximately two bands. The budget for each event would be $500. We already have one very generous sponsorship of $1,000 from a local vendor, so we’re asking you, our potential Kickstarter sponsors, for $2,000 but the more money we raise the more we can pay our artists and the more live music we can bring to the Gowanus canal.
Please check out our rewards:
You'll find a little something for everyone. Tiny bars of Lavender soap, Dredgers T-shirts, guided canoe tours and many assorted rewards but the best reward of all is listening to some great music at the boathouse on a beautiful summers evening, nothing could be more fun.
The Gowanus Canal Dredgers Canoe Club sponsors free canoeing, art walks and programs like the Creekers Jamboree to bring people down to the Gowanus canal and helps facilitate community engagement.
